Mark Mcnamara, Portland Oregan

"My mother and I spent a week at Istmo retreat. Neither my mom and I are experienced at yoga, but Ayesha adapted to our needs, while still pushing us to improve our practice. Sean was a wonderful tour guide that showed us many incredible places by paddle board and car that ranged from the lagoons to my personal favourite, the Embera Indigenous village."

I would definitely recommend this retreat to anyone!

My mother and I spent a week at the Istmo retreat. We could not have been more pleased with our stay! The rooms were very comfortable and homey. There is beautiful beach (which we basically had to ourselves) just a short walk away. The staff were incredibly welcoming, accommodating and were a pleasure to spend time with. The dogs were super friendly, easy going and a joy to have around.

Neither my mom and I are experienced at yoga, but Ayesha adapted to our needs, while still pushing us to improve our practice. The yoga studio created a unique relaxed experience where you were able to enjoy the classes while listening to the surrounding nature.

Sean was a wonderful tour guide that showed us many incredible places by paddle board and car that ranged from the lagoons to my personal favourite, the Embera Indigenous village. Our week was the perfect amount of busy, we got to see many different things while still getting to relax and have some of our own down time.

The meals Sean made were INCREDIBLE! My mother and I have a combination of gluten free and vegan between the two of us, but Sean accommodated our needs. Each day I was excited to taste what Sean had prepared!

I would definitely recommend this retreat to anyone!

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We have the answers.

What will the weather be like in Feb/March?

It is always warm and beautiful in Panama! :-)

Mid-December to mid-April is the dry season. It does not rain then, and it is cold up North. Come escape the cold in tropical Panama!

How far away from the airport is the Retreat Center?

We are 1 hour and 45 minutes away from the airport with light traffic.

How close is a medical clinic? How far away is the closest town?

Our location is secluded but not isolated. During working hours there is an English Speaking Hospital a 15 minutes driving from our property, and after 9 pm there is a 24 hour Public Hospital a 7-minute drive away. Owner Sean Davis is a trained EMT. In case of emergencies, we will personally take you to a clinic.

Can I bring my children to this retreat?

The activities of this retreat are designed for adults. Mature children above 13 years are welcome to participate. Contact us if you have questions...

What is not included in the price of this retreat?

  • Your flight to Panama.
  • Lunches, you can budget $15 - $20 per lunch (high end).
  • Tips, in general tips are not required, but highly appreciated.
  • Drinks and Snacks
  • Spa services, massages are $60 per hour.
  • If your flight arrives to panama after 2 pm on Sunday or leaves before 2 pm on Saturday, you will have to arrange your own transportation - contact us for options.
  • Spending money for gifts and general shopping at the artisans markets.

Can you tell me about the beach – how close walking and is it rocky or sandy? Is it safe to swim?

The beach (Playa Grande) is a 5 to 8-minute walk along a rural road. It is a black and white sandy beach, if you walk 20 minutes along the beach you get to a breathtaking private rocky coves (so you get both).

What if I have food restrictions and/or allergies?

We happily accommodate most restrictions and allergies, once you register we will send you a form asking for all the information we need to make sure we can cater to your needs.

What’s the safety of your facility? What’s the safety of the overall area?

We are blessed to live and run our business in a small safe rural/beach community. Our 3 friendly boxer dogs are our 24-hour security. We have not felt the need to fence in our property or to hire a security guard. General security precautions, and cultural considerations, like not leaving valuables on the beach unattended, and single women not going down to the beach too early or too late are sensible measures we ask our guests to follow.

Panama, in general, is a very safe country to travel in!

What if I don't want to do some of the activities or yoga classes?

You do you! There is no obligation to participate in any of the activities or yoga classes.

What currency is used in Panama?

In Panama we use the US Dollar ($USD), however we call it the Balboa. Bottom line, your $USD work her, no hassle!
